The actress, who was married to Tom Cruise, claims she’s more sensitive than people think but she’s in a better place these days.
Hollywood star Katie Holmes has opened up for the first time about her troubled marriage to Tom Cruise saying she is now ready to fall in love again.
During a difficult two years following her acrimonious divorce from the Top Gun star she admitted, “I cry all the time” but is now ready to face new challenges.
In an emotional interview with US magazine, People, the mum-of-one also quickly addresses the perception between her public and private life.
“I’m much more shy and much more sensitive than people realise,” she explained.
“I cry all the time. I do!”
Following her very divorce from Cruise, 52, in 2012 following six years of marriage she says she she has been steadily rebuilding her career.
She said: “I don’t want that moment in my life to define me, to be who I am.
“I don’t want that to be what I’m known as. I was an actor before, an actor during and an actor now.
“I don’t have any fear now, I don’t have a lot of rules for myself, and I don’t take myself that seriously,”
The actress who found fame playing Joey Potter in hit US show Dawson’s Creek says working in the film industry is a top priority, but said looking after her eight-year-old daughter Suri, who she had with Cruise, comes first.
Describing her daughter she said she ”means everything to me,” adding, “I’m learning every day, and I have been since the minute I became a mom.”
Following her split from Cruise, Holmes has spent most of her time in New York although she now spots her time between Manhattan and Los Angeles.
Asked about her views of dating she admitted to was ready for love again again.
“I’m a very loving person. Of course I’m open to finding love again,” she said
“What I’ve come to understand is that your dreams will happen, but they might not happen when you want them to.
“There are some things you just have to wait for.”
The Mission Impossible star wed Holmes in a luxury wedding in Italy back in 2006, after proposing to her in June 2005.
Holmes, 33, who had signed a prenuptial agreement months before their wedding, filed for divorce in June 2006.
But the bitter war between the couple was laid bare when a serious of explosive emails were made public which accused the actress of leading campaign of dirty tricks against him emerged.

In a series of emails they alleged Cruise was the victim of an orchestrated drive to discredit the actor as well as claiming sensitive information was being leaked.

Emails between August and September of 2012 exposed the fierce rift between the couple which allege the actress enlisted the help of a close friend.
Stylist to some of America’s biggest stars Jeanne Yang was accused of trashing Cruise to various publications and mounting a “conspiracy” against him on behalf of the Dawson’s Creek star.
It was later confirmed by Holmes’ lawyer that the highly publicised divorce had been settled and that she would gain ‘sole custody’ of their daughter.
